I'm an avid fan of the blogger Gala Darling! She's an incredible gal whose website inspires girls to live their happy life! Every Thursday, she posts something called "Things I Love Thursday" (or TILT.) She lists all the things she's happy about that week and invites others to do the same.
Here's my TILT for the week:
-experiencing my first roller derby match!
-delicious watermelon from the Farmer's Market
-beignets and cafe au lait during a nice summer bike ride
-hot, humid summer nights
-cicadas
-catching up with girlfriends
-outdoor, nighttime picnics
-lightning bugs
-drive-in movies
-chilled white wine
-watching softball games in the sun
-using fresh herbs in my cooking
-trying to decipher conversations with two year olds
-and much, much more...!
What do YOU love this week?
For the past couple of years, I've been going through a sort of 'quarter-life crisis'. When I actually turned 25 at the beginning of this year, it really freaked me out! I realized I wasn't even close to living the life I wanted to lead. Since that day, I've been making a conscious effort to pursue happiness and find out what it is that I love in this world. I've started this blog to document my journey...enjoy!

What I Love About Summer...
It's the first official day of summer! What a great day to post my first blog entry! Now that the weather has turned sticky hot and I'm wishing I could jump into a pool of ice cold water upon leaving the house each morning, I find myself dreaming about my favorite summer activities! What is it about summer that you love??

-Popsicles: There's a little place in Nashville called Las Paletas that I LOVE! It epitomizes summer for me! It's a tiny little store, and the only thing they serve is popsicles! They're all made of the freshest ingredients and are ridiculously delicious! Everyday their menu is just slightly different. They have the good 'ol regular standbys like Creamy Berry, but my FAVORITE is when they make special fruit popsicles that aren't always in season. The Watermelon and Mango flavors are the best! They've both got chunks of real frozen fruit. Everyone has their own favorite little place to beat the heat in the summer...what's yours??

-Lemonade: Who doesn't love a nice cold glass of lemonade on a hot summer day?? This past weekend, I went home for my town's annual Summer Festival. My best friend's mom made us lemonade and sugar cookies as we watched the parade from their front porch. She warned me that she doesn't strain out any of the pulp from her homemade lemonade. She keeps it in 'for authenticity' she claimed. It was perfect!
-Small Town Festivals: The previous item led me to this one - hometown festivals! I just love how every town has their own little way of welcoming summer in! There's usually a parade, filled with more fire trucks and police cars than anyone would ever care to see. I always wonder what would happen if an actual emergency occurred during my town's parade. Would half the parade just veer off course and head to the scene?! Because, heaven knows that all of the emergency vehicles my town has to offer shows up to be in the big summer parade! ; ) After the parade, you set off in search of fried deliciousness at one of the many food booths! Fried pickles, fried apples, fried tenderloins, fried chicken...the list goes on! There's just nothing like a hot summer night, with cotton candy in one hand and cheesy curly fries in the other!

-Fresh Fruit & Vegetables: As you can probably already tell, I am a HUGE fan of food! I love everything about it! (Note: I didn't realize until recently that not everyone loves food as much as I do. So, I guess I have to consider myself a 'foodie'...? I'm not too keen on that word, so I might have to make up a better term!) Anyway, I love summer fruits and vegetables! I also love that in the summer, when they're at the peak of their freshness, they are also at their cheapest...double bonus! I can run to the grocery store, get a cart full of blueberries, strawberries, bell peppers and herbs and not rack up a huge bill. I just love the freshness of summer!
-Being Tan: Now, I'm certainly no sun-worshipper or tanning bed addict, but I just love the glow that comes with hanging out in the summer sun. I always feel like I can leave the house without hardly any makeup and still look healthy and beautiful! No need for eye liner, blush or bronzer. I'll just throw on a coat of mascara and some lip gloss and I'm out the door!
Summer is one of my favorite times of the year! I'm looking forward to new adventures and partaking in old favorites! I'll keep you posted!
